July’s Bum of the Month – “Dance” Bacchus Vase, by Jaroslav Horejc
Posted on 25th August, 2023

In July, your favourite Museum Bum that we posted was this succinctly captioned “Glarse”. We’re very proud of that.
The information that we had at the time pointed to Swedish “Edvin Öhrström” as the maker of this artwork, but some further digging (and a reverse image search) has unveiled that the actual artist is Czechian Jaroslav Horejc. oops…
Horejc was a Czech sculptor and designer, specialising in cut glass and art deco designs, including a monumental cut-glass relief “The Earth and the Men” for the Palace of Nations in Geneva in 1937.
This glass is called “Dance” and shows a bacchic scene, designed c.1925.
Sorry Jaroslav, but we’re glad we got the opportunity to set the record straight with your very callipygian glarse! (Thanks @Alabandine2 and @PeterIntheswim for sharing!)
